Arsenal's extravagant attempt to bring Real Madrid's Iker Casillas to the Emirates has hit a brick wall after the goalkeeper's partner Sara Carbonero said she is staying in the Spanish capital.
According to the Daily Express, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made Casillas his priority in the transfer market as he looks to give current Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczesny some stiff competition.
Wenger had been confident of persuading the experienced Casillas, 33, to join the Arsenal ranks after the Spaniard fell second choice to Diego Lopez for the majority of last season, under Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.
The Gunners are now short in the goalkeeping department after Lukasz Fabianski joined Swansea, leaving them with only one other goalkeeper in the shape of Szczesny, who is yet to make a first team appearance. Wenger and Arsenal, however, may now need to look elsewhere.
33-year-old journalist and TV presenter Sara Carbonero, who is Casillas's partner, has recently declared that her future lies in Madrid and that is where she will be staying, which strongly hints that Casillas will be staying too.
The couple have recently just had a new son, which means it is extremely unlikely that the Spanish 'keeper will depart the Bernabeu for north London, leaving his partner and child behind.
In terms of Arsenal, they will need to keep searching for proven top class players like Casillas if they are to build on their success last season.
