According to Sky Sports, Luis Suarez never contemplated missing the World Cup, despite a knee injury which threatened to curtail his chances of appearing.
Since the announcement that the Liverpool striker would have to undergo surgery to fix an injury there has been much speculation concerning whether he would fly to Brazil with the Uruguayan national side.
However Suarez himself was never under any illusions, and was always confident of making the tournament. He said: “At no time did I feel pressured at no time have I felt sad because at no point did I think there was a chance of me missing the World Cup.”
The arrival of this news will no doubt have upset a few England fans that were hoping that this goal-scorer would not be featuring against their side. Suarez managed to score an impressive 31 goals in the Premier League last season, proving just why he would be a huge threat to any opponent Uruguay may face this summer.
However, knee surgery is very temperamental and therefore it is unknown how the hit-man will fair leading up to their opening match against Costa Rica on Saturday.
Commenting on his state of mind leading up to the World Cup he said: “Emotionally, I’ve never felt fine; psychologically, I’ve been spectacular.”
