England captain Alastair Cook has announced the first six players in the batting order for the first Test against Sri Lanka, which starts at Lord's on Thursday.
The line-up includes two debutants: Australian-born Sam Robson, who will open alongside Cook, and Moeen Ali, who will bat at six and also offer the spinning option for for his team. Garry Ballance, meanwhile, will get is opportunity at three and Joe Root will be at five.
Robson has worked his way through the ranks, opening for England Lions and the England Performance Programme (EPP) several times, including two centuries Down Under with the EPP last year. Moeen Ali, meanwhile, has already proved his worth for England in ODIs and T20s, and his Test call-up was always likely to happen.
Cook said: "Gary will bat at three, Belly at four, Rooty at five and Mo (Moeen) at six."
Wicket-keeper Matt Prior will undoubtedly come in at seven and the remaining line-up will be confirmed once the member of the twelve-man squad who will miss out - one of the seam bowlers - is announced.
