Liverpool could use Fabio Borini to land Adam Johnson

Sunderland midfielder Adam Johnson is wanted by both Merseyside clubs, according to the Daily Express.

Johnson has made 80 appearances for his hometown club following an unsuccessful time at Manchester City. He could consider himself unlucky not to be in Roy Hodgson's 30 man World Cup squad after his most successful season as a player in the Premier League.

Although not fulfilling his potential with Manchester City the midfielder may have another chance with a top five club.

Liverpool are prepared to offer the services of Fabio Borini who was Sunderland's top goalscorer last season, but has struggled to establish himself in the Anfield first team.

Having secured the signing of Rickie Lambert earlier in the transfer window, the Reds could be keen to bring in another English attacking option.

But there is also attention in Johnson on the other side of Stanley Park.

Everton have enquire about the availability of the midfielder after Gerard Deulofeu choose to return to parent club Barcelona.

He was one of the loan players that Everton used to good effect last year, but the Toffees could want to secure more permanent signing this time around.
