With their large spending power, Chelsea will be looking to bring in a number of star players to bolster their team after a trophyless season. Below is a prediction of the 2014/2015 first team:
Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois
Without doubt, Courtois has proven to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe this past season. Earlier this summer, Courtois stated he will not settle with a club where he will not get regular first team football, but it looks like he will return. It may be that Mourinho has convinced him that he will be the starting keeper ahead of the ageing Petr Cech who recently suffered a shoulder injury.
Right back: Branislav Ivanovic
Although PSG have confirmed to be after the Serbian right back, Mourinho will likely not sell this player as he was a major asset to the first team this past season.
Left back: Cesar Azpilicueta
A player like Azpilicueta will have a definite first team spot for the upcoming season. He was one of the most impressive players this past season, claiming the Chelsea players' player of the year award. Mourinho stated earlier during the season that if he had a team of 10 Azpilicuetas, he will win every possible trophy.
Centre backs: John Terry and Eliaquim Mangala
After the departure David Luiz to PSG was confirmed earlier this summer, Mourinho has been in the transfer market for a top defender. With the chance of Raphael Varane joining his former manager very low, Chelsea has been rumoured to be after Mangala.
With a player like Mangala, they will greatly strengthen their defensive line, something Mourinho will be looking for. Terry has recently signed a contract with the Blues and after Frank Lampard’s departure was confirmed, and his experience and leadership will be a necessity.
Midfield: Cesc Fabregas, Ramires and Tiago
As Arsenal have pulled out of his pursuit, it looks like the Blues eagerness and passion to sign Fabregas will see the star midfielder wearing the Chelsea shirt next season. Ramires has proved to be one of club’s most consistent midfielders this season. With his speed, stamina and goalscoring ability, he has been in Mourinho’s plan all season and it is very likely that this will continue.
Tiago has been on Mourinho's radar for a while and it is rumored that he will be bringing him part of the Costa deal. Tiago proved to be a vital part of Atletico Madrid's success and a player like him will definitely be on Mourinho's radar. Although he is 32, Mourinho will be looking for some experienced players other than Terry.
Attacking midfielders: Oscar and Eden Hazard
Oscar was a very impressive player over the course of the season. He was a solid attacking midfielder and his performances put him ahead of his former teammate Juan Mata. It is likely Oscar will be a key player in Chelsea's first team. Although the season ended with tension between Hazard and Mourinho, the player has confirmed he will be wearing the number 10 shirt next season.
After being awarded the Chelsea fans' player of the year award by Mourinho, they were joking around and laughing; a sign of them having possibly solved their issues. Chelsea will do everything in their power to prevent the departure of their key player.
Forward: Diego Costa
Chelsea were in need of a top striker all season and have set Costa as one of their biggest summer transfer targets. After a season where he proved to be one of the deadliest strikers in Europe, Chelsea appear set to sign him.
