Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the greatest authorities on the WWE going, so when he says something it probably pays to listen.
And pay was exactly what was on his mind when asked recently in an interview with Bleacher Report, what he makes of CM Punk's self-exile from the organization:
"He left the company and whenever he comes back, that's up to him," the legendary former wrestler explained.
"I don't know how I would bring him back. I just know that when I got out of the business for about 6-10 months, I lost a **** load of money...
"I believe that if you have got some miles left in the tank, you should make your money while you can and don't leave it on the table because you'll never make that money back," continued Austin.
Punk has not been seen in a WWE capacity since appearing at Royal Rumble back in January and recently spoke of his happiness since leaving the organization.
Both the WWE hierarchy and Punk have however refused to rule out a return for the much loved Canadian and Stone Cold Steve Austin's words serve as a warning to Punk not to waste the limited years he has left as a top level wrestler:
"At the end of the day, you can say, 'it ain't about the money.' Well, it is about the money because you need to make as much of it as you can before you can't make that money anymore," warned the wrestler turned radio show presenter.
Austin retired from the WWE in 2004 but has since made sporadic appearances at special events, the most recent of which came at WrestleMania XXX back in April.
And he was wary of ruling out a return for CM Punk in large part because he knows just how much the WWE fan base appreciates what the latter has to offer:
"Certainly the fans would welcome him back because he was doing a great job before he left and when he gets his head right and wants to come back, I believe he will."
At present however that return looks someway off with no word from Punk on a potential return, and with his contract up this summer he and Vince McMahon will have to sit down at some point before the money Austin is talking about disappears into thin air.
