Chael Sonnen retires from UFC!

Chael Sonnen is hanging up his gloves.

Sonnen announced on UFC Tonight, in an interview with former UFC star Kenny Florian on Fox Sports 1, that he would end his MMA career, in part because of a recent failed drug test.

Sonnen failed a test with the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and offered the justification that rule changes he did not understand were to blame.

The 17-year MMA veteran was scheduled to fight Vitor Belfort later this summer, but a new opponent will have to be found.

Sonnen is best remembered for his two fights against then-UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva, including their 2010 bout, in which Silva submitted Sonnen in the fifth round, with Sonnen ahead on all score cards, and narrowly missing out on the opportunity to end Silva's then-12 fight win streak, which he ran to 17.

Sonnen had regularly appeared on Fox Sports 1 as an MMA analyst, and is expected to continue his television commentary role.
