Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is willing to grant Carlo Ancelotti's summer wish and do all out to try and land Chelsea midfielder Ramies, but there is one person standing in the way of any deal - Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho is not keen at all to let the Brazil international leave Stamford Bridge and sees him as crucial to the Blues' midfield, but Ramires may be ready for a new challenge and Ancelotti is keen on a reunion at Santiago Bernabeu, according to Marca. The report claims that Real Madrid manager, who signed the 27-year-old for Chelsea from Benfica in 2010, feels he would be the perfect addition to his midfield.
Perez agrees and is prepared to splash the cash to land the all-action midfielder, but Mourinho is standing firm and refusing to budge to let him go - which is entirely the right response. This may not be enough, however, as the report claims Ramires is prepared to depart Stamford Bridge after four years and numerous trophies, including the Champions League and Europa League.
Mourinho's reputation at Chelsea and his relationship with the fans is as such that his job is probably safe, but he could be excused for feeling the pressure a little bit with Roman Abramovich's previous attitude towards managers going through a season without winning a trophy. The Portuguese tactician needs to win something this year, especially as for much of last season he talked up his squad as a work in progress that would blossom with a bit of time.
Any notion of Chelsea mounting a successful title challenge in the 2014/15 Premier League will be made all the more unlikely if the drive in their midfield is allowed to depart for Los Blancos. The Blues have a number of players in the squad who are up for sale, but they would be foolish to allow one of their most consistent performers for the last couple of seasons depart.
Marca talk about how much Mourinho desires players that can make quick transitions from defence to attack and there really is not another player at Mourinho's disposal who can do it quite like the Brazilian. Ramires has incredible strength, pace and a level of stamina that allows him to run up and down the pitch all day, which is made ever more useful added to his ability to play in a number of positions.
Chelsea would be foolish in the extreme to sell Ramires and if Mourinho is doing all he can to stop it from happening, he is a smart man.
