After scoring just one Premier league goal all season for Sunderland, some will see Jozy Altidore as one of the worst strikers in the division.
The 24 year-old had already played a season in England four years ago on loan at Hull City before joining Sunderland with high expectations last summer.
His record for goals at AZ Alkmaar was quite outstanding, netting an brilliant tally of 38 goals in 67 appearances prompting interest from some of the country's biggest clubs including Tottenham and Liverpool.
However, after his debut season at Sunderland, Altidore is now being linked away from the Stadium of Light due to his lack of goals.
Despite his struggles for his club recently, he has always performed for his country, scoring another impressive tally of 23 goals in 70 caps, all before the age of 25.
With the U.S.A's World Cup tournament starting against Ghana on the 16th, many will look to Altidore's goals, especially with the notable absence of American soccer legend Landon Donovan who was not selected for the tournament.
After an expected win against Ghana, the U.S will face giants Portugal and Germany in their group.
Whilst Germany are expected to cruise through their group and in all fairness, all three games, the second place will be up for grabs and despite the brilliance of Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal could well be shocked and see the U.S make it through to the round of sixteen.
Portugal's defence is quite average, giving Altidore a chance to fire his country to the knock-out stages.
Four years ago, at the last World Cup, Uruguay made it to the semi finals mainly down to the five goals of striker Diego Forlan who was not regarded world class before the tournament.
If he plays his cards right, Jozy Altidore could be a shock star at the Brazil 2014 World Cup and his country, the U.S, could well provide some shocks of their own during the tournament.
After that, he will focus on becoming a proven Premier league striker and emulate the form he has shown at former clubs.
