With the World Cup just hours away a recent survey by Betfair has revealed that England fans are proving to be quite the optimist about their chances in the tournament.
The survey of 2,000 fans found that 52 percent think England will go on to reach at least the quarter finals of the tournament, while an even more confident 17 percent believe England can equal their 1990 World Cup feat of the last four.
These statistics come as a welcomed breath of fresh air compared to our usual downbeat attitude before the tournament has even started.
However, what was more surprising is the fact that five percent of the usually biased fans of Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all stated they believe England can even go on to win the World Cup.
As well as this, it seems that the English have no shame in admitting that a third of them have cried once before over the game that seems to have caused us so much turmoil over the years. Surely there is nothing wrong with being slightly optimistic for once?
Even when the time comes for inevitable exit from the competition, the survey revealed the most likely country to gain our support would be Brazil being both the hosts and favourites.
