One of the biggest rumours going around the wrestling world for years is the arrival of WCW legend Sting.
Once more at WrestleMania season rumours were spreading that Sting finally signed a deal with the WWE to wrestle on match; and the rumours continued when Sting mentioned that 31 was his new favourite number, hinting at a match at WrestleMania 31.
But as of late the interest and speculation has cooled off, until this past week when casting agencies released requests online for Sting lookalikes, this isn’t exactly a direct WWE production, but it is from a company that works alongside the WWE on various occasions.
They have been looking for a Sting body double and have requested men aged 38-50 that are at least 6’2” and are around 250lbs of pure muscle. They prefer body doubles who have some wrestling experience and are fit and healthy. They also requested the body doubles to have slightly long, dark hair and will need to wear a full face of make up; obviously referring to Sting’s infamous face paint.
It is unknown whether someone has managed to secure that role, but the agency was willing to pay a much higher rate than usual as they asked for a very good double for this production.
Not only that, they also requested orchestra musicians that have their own instruments to come forward, looking for anyone aged 18-70 to play a playing orchestra; but they will be wearing Sting’s face paint.
The agency didn’t believe this announcement would garner so much attention online and start that speculation once more, and of course the WWE aren’t too pleased about this. They are rumoured to be very upset with this news leaking as they haven’t managed to make Sting sign his contract yet, although it is now considered a formality and the two sides will reach a deal soon.
There are various discussions as to what this casting call may be for, one thing which is heavily rumoured is that it could be for the WWE 2K15 video game, whilst others are suggesting it could be for a WWE DVD production.
The deal is still on the table and it isn’t an ordinary legends deal which the likes of Bret Hart and the late Ultimate Warrior had, they have offered him a lot more money and he would only have to wrestle one match, Sting wants The Undertaker but with his loss at WrestleMania to Brock Lesnar, his own future inside of the ring is in doubt.
This project is going to go ahead whether or not Sting signs with the WWE; but it would be easier for both parties if he did sign. There are no immediate plans for Sting so don’t expect to see him on your television set any time soon, although a General Manager role had been touted previously. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen.
