Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is considering trading Petr Cech in for a younger model next season.
Thibaut Curtois has recently completed his third season on loan at Atletico Madrid and is looking like the likely candidate who will be stepping up to take the top spot ahead of club favourite Cech.
Mourinho has apparently stressed that he wants the 22-year-old to return to Stamford Bridge this summer, whilst he deliberates whether he should take over in goal next season.
But with three years of experience in La Liga now under his belt this could well be his time to shine and prove he is a worthy choice.
However, this is not denying the fact that old-timer Cech still has a lot working in his favor, after being with the club for over a decade now he has easily become one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
But after being stung by a shoulder injury ironically against Atletico Madrid, his career has been on the line.
This wouldn't be the first time there has been rumour about the keeper's future at the club after reports claimed Mourinho has slapped a £10 million asking price onto the 31-year old earlier this month.
Cech has also confirmed that he would no way accept being demoted to the No. 2 behind Curtois, which doesn’t come as a surprise as a keeper of his talent would be wasted sitting on the bench game in, game out. Even more so, that although Curtois is almost half his age Cech’s career is no way coming to an end with plenty more years left to be on the pitch.
Therefore, Mourinho would be wise to consider what possible club Cech would move to if he left the Blues. With his experience and reliability clubs all over the world would be fighting to sign the Czech international.
Therefore, this decision could ultimately come back to haunt him especially if Cech moved to another Premier League club, making him a potentially serious threat to Chelsea next season.
Mourinho has more than enough time left to make a decision but it really does seem that it’s all going to come down to a battle between Old Vs. New – lets just hope he gets it right.
