A lot of teams came up short in their quest for an NFL championship last year, and not all of them took the necessary steps to succeed next season, but some teams addressed their offseason needs and more.
By using the draft and free agency, these five teams were capable of completely changing their team's makeup in one offseason.
These five NFL franchises' took advantage of the availability of talent and look to bounce back next season.
Despite having the NFL's second best offense last season, they were picked apart time and time again on defense. This offseason, they have added depth in the secondary by signing defensive back Kyle Fuller in the first round. They also addressed their defensive line issues with several later round draft picks.
In free agency, the Bears landed Jared Allen, a veteran defensive tackle who is sure to help out with the run defense that embarrassed the bears last year. Look for a big season out of Chicago this year, because despite a tough schedule, this team will not be happy with anything less than a championship.
The Houston Texans had the NFL's worst record last year, and although their problems were mostly on offense, they spent the number one overall pick in the draft on Jadaveon Clowney. He is a game-changing athlete who will surely make a difference alongside J.J. Watt. The Texans also drafted a promising young quarterback in the fourth round in Tom Savage.
The Redskins problems last year were accentuated by their poor defense and the uncertainty of Robert Griffin III. Next year, not only do the Redskins hope to have a healthy quarterback in RGIII, but he will have a new weapon. The Redskins signed Desean Jackson in free agency, and he promises to be a productive target for their young quarterback.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers were without their best player for most of the season, but were able to sneak into the playoffs with a game to remember against the Bears. This year, with a healthy Aaron Rodgers and an improved defense with the addition of Julius Peppers, they look to have a much better season and hope to make a run in the playoffs.
New York Giants
The Giants were brought down last year by Eli Manning's turnovers, which were partly to the fault of the offensive line. The Giants addressed both with the signing of three offensive linemen in free agency, and the drafting of Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham is a versatile receiver who can make plays in the Giants offense and will help out Eli Manning. With an improved offense and a confident defense, this team has the potential to make a playoff run next year.
