On last night’s edition of Impact Wrestling, TNA confirmed the final matches for the card of their Slammiversary pay-per-view, which takes place on Sunday.
The matches will be as follows:
• Main Event – Eric Young (c) vs. MVP – Steel Cage Match for the World Heavyweight Championship
The build-up to this match has been simmering at the heart of every edition of Impact for over a month. As reported earlier, MVP gave TNA officials a huge scare by picking up a knee injury in Preston earlier this month, but is expected to be fit to take his place in the main event.
On last night’s Impact, Eric Young was issued a challenge – three matches in one night, win two, and he would be allowed to choose the stipulation for the World Title match at Slammiversary. After opening up with a defeat against Bobby Lashley, Young beat Kenny King to set up a deciding match against MVP.
After failing to clinch the match, MVP attacked Young with a steel chair. As a result Young won the match by disqualification and was allowed to choose the stipulation. EY challenged MVP to a steel cage match. It was a strange decision from MVP, against an opponent who was clearly exhausted after two matches and a beat-down prior to his third match. MVP handed Young the win, in exchange for the opportunity to attack him one more time.
• Ethan Carter III vs. Bully Ray – Texas Death Match
TNA have also been building up the rivalry between EC3 and Bully Ray, with the pair clashing several times in recent weeks. On Thursday, one week after Ray had split Carter open in a first blood match, EC3 and Rockstar Spud promised to reveal Bully’s true character.
They brought out the returning Brooke Tessmacher, Ray’s former on-screen girlfriend, and attempted to force her to divulge the secrets of her and Bully’s relationship. However, she denied all their allegations, including Spud’s insistence that she was carrying Ray’s child.
Bully Ray came to the ring and chased Carter and Spud away. He reminded Carter that there was a table with his name on it. EC3 challenged Ray to a tables match at Slammiversary. However, Ray upped the stakes, offering Carter the chance to take him on in a Texas Death Match – an offer which Carter accepted.
• Bobby Lashley vs. Samoa Joe & Austin Aries vs. Kenny King
The other four competitors in the recent eight-man first blood match, that pitted the face and heel stables against each other – are Bobby Lashley, Samoa Joe, Austin Aries and Kenny King. They too, will do battle at Slammiversary, with Lashley and Joe facing off in a battle of the heavyweights, while X Division stars Aries and King square off.
• Angelina Love (c) vs. Gail Kim – Knockouts Championship Match
On Thursday, Gail Kim defeated Madison Rayne and Brittany to become the number one contender to Angelina Love’s Knockouts Title. Love, and her Beautiful People partner Velvet Sky were ringside for the match, and tried to engineer a victory in favour of the less experienced TNA newcomer Brittany – who they clearly deemed as the lesser threat. Love succeeded in pulling Rayne out of the ring and dragging her away from the action but Velvet, who attempted to attack Kim with her can of hairspray, missed, and instead hit Brittany. Kim easily finished off her stricken opponent and claimed the win, much to the frustration of Love.
• Sanada (c) vs. Manik vs. Tigre Uno vs. Crazzy Steve vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Davey Richards – Ladder Match for the X Division Championship
The other championship match at Slammiversary will be a six-way ladder match. The match will involve defending champion Sanada, former champion Manik, newcomers Tigre Uno and Crazzy Steve, and both members of The Wolves, who will be looking to add to the Tag Team Title belts that they already hold. Crazzy Steve was the only competitor to appear on Thursday’s edition of Impact – he was at ringside as his associate in the Menagerie, Knux, defeated Robbie E in a singles match.
• Willow (with Abyss) vs. Magnus (with Bram)
Willow and Magnus will continue their on-going feud at Slammiversary, but this time with the intriguing stipulation that both men will have an enforcer in their corner. Magnus will have Bram and, as revealed last night, Willow will have the Monster, Abyss. On Thursday, Magnus and Bram came to the ring to boast about their attack on Willow – celebrating Magnus’ return to his true identity. However, Willow emerged to reveal the man that will be in his corner on Sunday, Magnus’ former associate, Abyss.
• James Storm vs. Mr Anderson
Neither Storm nor Anderson made an appearance on Thursday’s edition of Impact. Their feud had already reached its peak one week earlier, when the Cowboy attacked Anderson in the ring, after Anderson spent the first-half of the show impersonating Storm and making fun of him to the crowd.
• The Von Erich’s and Kurt Angle to appear
Slammiversary will be completed by the appearance of the Von Erich brothers, who will have father Kevin in the crowd watching on closely, and Kurt Angle, who will announce the identity of the third entrant into the TNA Hall of Fame.
