Juventus may have waltzed to the Serie A title by amassing a massive 102 points last term, but the Italian giants are right to pursue Real Madrid and Spain forward Alvaro Morata in a bid to ensure the league championship remains in Turin next term.
In a season where they netted 80 league goals, nearly a quarter of the overall tally was scored by the magical Carlos Tevez, who arrived from Manchester City for just £10million in the summer.
Their dependency on a player with a track record of struggling during the toughest stages of the season is unhealthy, and Antonio Conte would do no wrong by recruiting a player possessing talent in abundance and capable of growing into one of the best centre forwards on the planet.
For though his popularity is undisputed over in Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti is said to be looking to offload him in order to make room for Luis Suarez, who would then battle it out with French forward Karim Benzema for a place in the starting 11.
Ancelotti showed last summer he is not afraid of going against the wishes of the fans, with his decision to sell both Mesut Ozil and Gonzalo Higuain to Arsenal and Napoli respectively greeted with widespread disapproval at the time.
Morata is believed by many to be the true heir to legendary Spain striker Raul, given his prolific nature and evolution through Real Madrid Castilla to the first team. But AS claims Juventus are looking to sign the player.
After initially being given his debut by Manuel Pellegrini, it was under Jose Mourinho that he became a more prominent fixture in the side, making 15 appearances and scoring twice during the Portuguese’s infamous last season at the helm.
When Higuain left and it became clear that Suarez could not be prized away from Liverpool, Ancelotti made the decision to give him more playing time and an opportunity to prove himself at the biggest club in the world.
The Spaniard thrived under the extra pressure, and scored nine goals in 34 matches as well as featuring during the club’s 4-1 win over rivals Atletico Madrid in the Champions League final.
Such impressive form had alerted Manchester United and Arsenal to his services, but Louis Van Gaal has convinced Robin Van Persie to remain at the club whereas Arsene Wenger is reported to be more interested in coaxing Mario Balotelli away from AC Milan.
Juventus’ need is greatest with Fabio Quagliarella’s career entering its final stages and Fernando Llorente said to be attracting the interest of Luis Enrique over in Barcelona.
