Louis van Gaal could make Dutch international Arjen Robben his first signing at Manchester United with the Red Devils reportedly ready to offer £28 million for the experienced winger.

The Netherlands manager wants to revamp his Old Trafford attacking options and will advise chief executive Ed Woodward to table a bid for the 30-year-old after the World Cup, according to MailOnline Sport.

Van Gaal has been linked with taking several of his Holland forwards to join national hero Robin van Persie with him at Man United, while the likes of Ashley Young, Nani and Danny Welbeck are set to leave the club.

Robben, who signed for Bayern Munich under van Gaal in 2009, has scored 89 goals in 166 appearances for the German giants and would be part of a major overhaul designed to restore United's reputation following their seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

It is thought that his relationship with David Moyes's successor may lure him to Manchester - despite the team's failure to qualify for the Champions League and his three-year contract to stay at the Allianz Arena.

Robben gave a reminder of his dribbling and finishing abilities with two goals in the Netherlands' 5-1 victory over Spain on Friday and could also be interested in a return to English football having won five trophies during a spell at Chelsea between 2004 and 2007.
