Mats Hummels admits he could join Manchester United one day

Published 3 Comments

German star Mats Hummels has revealed that he could make a move to Manchester United in the future, reports The Telegraph.

The centre-back, who starred and scored in Germany's 4-0 victory over Portugal yesterday in the World Cup, has been outstanding for Borussia Dortmund in recent time.

And now it appears that new Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has made the 25-year-old his priority defender signing this summer.

However, despite admitting that a future move to Old Trafford is a possibility, the defender has insisted that he doesn't expect to move on in this summer's transfer window.

Speaking to reporters about a potential move to the Red Devils, Hummels said:  “I never think about that or talk about it because it is something that isn’t important for me right now. Maybe it will be some day, but I don’t expect it to be like that this summer.”

Manchester United fans will certainly be hoping the club can add to their defensive ranks this summer after the likes of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic departed the club at the end of last season.

Van Gaal's side now just have the likes of Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling competing for the centre-half positions at the club.

It remains to be seen, however, as to whether Manchester United officials make a move for the highly rated German in the near future.

As well as Hummels, the Premier League giants have been linked with a number of other defenders in recent time - including Arsenal captain, Thomas Vermaelen

It will certainly be interesting as to which defenders the Manchester United manager can bring to the club ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. Red Devils fans will certainly be hoping for an improvement next term after a nightmare season under David Moyes last time out.

The likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Co. failed to impress and establish themselves in the first team, meaning it could be all change at the club under the new regime.

Hummels would certainly represent a fine piece of business for Val Gaal, but it may not be easy for the new boss to bring the German ace to the Theatre of Dreams this summer.
