Thomas Vermaelen has been linked with a move to Manchester United in the past 24 hours, but his agent has since played down talks that he has agreed to join the club, according to the Metro.
The 28-year-old’s future has been a source of speculation in recent months as he has fallen behind Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, and reports have suggested that a £10 million bid was launched by the club and personal terms were agreed.
However, the Belgium defender’s representative, Kees Vos, moved to quell such talk, claiming: “No deal is is in place with United or any other club”.
The Belgian defender only made seven starts last season in the Premier League and he has himself admitted he may have to move in the summer in order to secure himself first-team football moving forward. Last month he refused to comment on the speculation about a future at Arsenal, stating: “I can’t talk about my future now. We’ll have to see."
Vermaelen is currently at the World Cup with tournament under-dogs Belgium, and therefore a number of strong performances could spark interest from admirers.
