Arsenal fans all over the world may well have read some interesting transfer gossip regarding their club in the last 24 hours: Arsene Wenger wants to bring Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley to the Emirates.
This has - unsurprisingly - not gone down too well with the Gunners faithful. In fact, it has gone down terribly, as reported by The Daily Star.
Arsenal fans clearly don't want the English midfielder at their club, with reports suggesting captain Thomas Vermaelen could head in the opposite direction.
With Vermaelen out of contract at the Emirates at the end of next season, it appears that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants to bring the experienced Belgian to Old Trafford.
So Arsenal fans have taken to social media to show their dismay at the transfer link. Here are a couple of the best Tweets found from The Daily Star:
@khado14 tweeted: If you sign Tom Cleverley, we riot. #AFC
@deathontwoIegs tweeted: If Arsenal swap Vermaelen for Tom Cleverley after turning down the chance to sign Fabregas then I'm leaving this planet.
It's certainly clear that Gunners fans don't want Cleverley lining up alongside the likes of Mesut Ozil, Jack Wilshere and Co. next season.
Wenger didn't want Fabregas
As one of the previous tweets mentioned: Wenger turned down the opportunity to bring Cesc Fabregas back to the club. The Spanish international consequently jumped ship to Stamford Bridge, and will be wearing the blue of Chelsea next season.
So, it appears that Cleverley isn't seen as the perfect alternative. It remains to be seen, however, as to whether Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has a place in his squad for the midfield man.
In truth, criticism towards Cleverley may appear slightly harsh, but the United man has seemingly failed to progress in recent years.
He was the subject of criticism as Manchester United endured a nightmare campaign under the David Moyes regime last season, and it's unclear as to whether he will stay on at the Theatre of Dreams for the 2014/15 campaign.
Who will Arsenal sign?
Well, if Wenger doesn't press ahead for the Manchester United outcast, then which players could he target this summer?
Whilst improving his midfield may not be seen as a priority, it appears that the north London outfit are in desperate need of a world class striker.
One man that has been linked with a move to the Gunners is controversial Italian, Mario Balotelli. Reports have indicated that Arsenal chiefs are ready to land the Milan striker for £25 million this summer.
It certainly looks set to be a busy summer at the Emirates, but Gunners fans won't be welcoming Cleverley to the club with open arms.
