French international Yann M'Vila has always been a favourite of the Premier League rumour mill and was once again being tracked by Arsenal and Liverpool with a view to a £12.5m summer switch, but the midfield maestro has finally ended that interest by confirming he is in talks to join Inter Milan.
M'Vila's star shone brightest in the 2011-12 season, where he was ever present in a rising Rennes side and became a regular for Les Blues under Laurent Blanc, but a lucrative £9.6m move to Rubin Kazan last January has seen things take a slightly sour turn.
Despite that Russian odyssey the 23-year-old is still highly rated across the continent, with the Daily Star confirming reports in the Italian media this morning that M'Vila flew to Milan last night to hold talks with Inter over a surprise move to Serie A.
Inter are desperate to sign quality new recruits in search and have the financial backing to make that happen this summer thanks to new president Erick Thohir, with M'Vila ready to talk terms over joining Nemanja Vidic at the San Siro.
Wenger's near miss
Arsenal fans will be no stranger to their name being mentioned in connection with M'Vila, who was was once widely considered as the kind of dynamic, ball-winning midfielder that the Gunners have been crying out ever since Patrick Vieira left North London in 2005.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a long-term admirer of the 22-cap international, but has decided on more than occasion that M'Vila is not worth the trouble, particularly following his suspension from the French national side for repeated ill-discipline, including nightclubs trips and snubbing his own manager during Euro 2012.
Wenger still monitors the player though and needs added bite and steel in central midfield, which led reports in the French media earlier this week to insist there was still a fleeting chance he could revive Arsenal interest with a summer bid.
What about Liverpool?
In 2014 it's been Merseyside that's been more prominently floated as a potential destination for a player looking to revive his top-level career and make sure it doesn't become a case of what might have been for one of France's brightest young talents.
M'Vila is a close friend of Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho and was even spotted in the crowd during a 3-3 draw with local rivals Everton last season, with Reds supremo Brendan Rodgers reportedly considering a January loan approach to Rubin, before deciding against it.
Rodgers has moved swiftly to agree a deal for German under-21 international Emre Can, which paved the way for Inter to steal a march and finally register a concrete offer for a star who's agent appears to have been working ferociously to tout his client in recent times.
