There really is nothing quite as good as the World Cup. Ok, maybe there are some more serious global issues that should take precedence over the competition, but anyone who suggests the best sporting tournament in in the world is anything other than immense fun is inherently untrustworthy.
Seeing the Brazilian fans going wild in Sao Paulo and Fortaleza was a sight to behold and the genuine passion for the game is infectious. Atmosphere in stadiums created by excited supporters are what the World Cup is all about and being at most any game when the host country is as enthusiastic about their football as Brazil is a sensational feeling.
One other aspect of World Cups that makes it so compelling to watch is the creation of national heroes and villains. While it is always intriguing to explore how certain individuals can become so despised by so many of their compatriots for a slip here or there, we at GMS like to accentuate the positive and concentrate on those adored by their supporters.
Each tournament throws up one or two characters that become synonymous with its recall after a slow building of narratives through the various rounds, whether they are already global stars or unknowns emerging into the spotlight, it is one of the processes that is engaging about converging on a place for loads of glorious football every four years.
2014 in Brazil is no different and now the first round of games have all been completed, GMS have picked out a few names we feel have already emerged as inluential characters, or have at least showed signs of doing so as the games go on.
We have picked 10 of them for you to agree or disagree with - a Talismanic Ten, if you will.
