A top Portuguese doctor has warned Cristiano Ronaldo that if he carries on playing in the World Cup, he may end his own career.
Surgeon, Dr Jose Carlos Noronha, who has performed ACL repairs on top-players has said that he spoke to Ronaldo and told him of the dangers of playing.
According to quotes in El Confidential, the doctor told Ronaldo: “Let your knee rest, or your future is in danger” to which Ronaldo replied, “I'm the one that says whether I'm playing or not.”
The doctor says that MRI’s showing serious pressure on the patellar tendon in his left knee and that playing on it could risk tearing the tendon beyond repair. Ronaldo needs two months off from the game immediately if he wishes to fully repair the injury to his knee, according to Noronha.
The Real Madrid star left training early yesterday with his knee in ice. He did the same for the game against Germany where they slumped to a 4-0 loss.
That loss and the USA's dramatic 2-1 win means that Portugal are in crunch time already and without their talisman, they may be eliminated from the World Cup before their third game. Whether or not Ronaldo starts hasn't been made clear but there's sure to be plenty of Real Madrid officials trying to talk the mega-star out of playing.
