We’re now less than two weeks away from the Money in the Bank pay-per-view and we finally received confirmation on Main Event that there will be a Money in the Bank ladder match.
It was unclear whether there will be a briefcase on the line but that is now the case, we also have the latest updates on the WWE budget cuts as well as a potential return for The Rock. Let’s take a look at the latest updates in the WWE.
This article could contain spoilers; if you wish to avoid these please turn back now.
Could The Rock return?
The last time we saw The Rock was in the opening segment of WrestleMania XXX alongside fellow legends Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin. The last time we saw him compete was in a rematch with John Cena at WrestleMania 29 where The Great attempted – and failed – to defend his WWE Championship.
However The Rock hasn’t ruled out on a return to the ring in the future. There were rumours floating around over the last year that The Rock was scheduled to take on Brock Lesnar, rather than The Beast Incarnate defeating The Undertaker. This would have been a rematch from their classic encounter at SummerSlam 2002. But The Rock has said he would be tempted to return to the ring if the event was as big as WrestleMania 29; and the payday would have to match or beat his WrestleMania 29 appearance.
The debut of the WWE logo
If you have the WWE Network then you will have noticed that the logo being displayed is the new modified WWE logo; however that logo hasn’t been used everywhere else as of yet. The update right now is that the WWE will officially switch to their new logo the night after SummerSlam.
Home Video and other merchandise partners were issued a memo from the WWE a few weeks ago stating that the logo will in fact come into effect August 18.
WWE budget cuts continue
The WWE released 11 talents to save the company some money and they are looking to cut $20 million from this year’s budget. Now it has been reported that the next cuts come from the production side of things; most notably getting rid of the golden curtain which was used for Fandango’s entrance and the lift which was used for Bad News Barrett.
This means they don’t need the truck to transport these items for entrances and that already has saved them approximately $250,000 a year. WWE has now also stopped using tour buses production members and other staff would use to travel from city to city. The buses are usually filled with equipment or talent so they can travel comfortably but now it looks like they will have to drive themselves the locations.
Second Money in the Bank ladder match announced
It was unclear at first but now it has been confirmed that there will be a briefcase to compete for at this year’s Money in the Bank ladder match. With Bryan’s injury the WWE World Heavyweight Championships were up for grabs but Seth Rollins confirmed the match – and entered himself in it – on WWE Main Event.
Seth Rollins also debuted new ring gear on the Tuesday tapings of Friday Night SmackDown.
2K working with Sting
2K Sports are now finally filming their Sting commercial for his appearance in the WWE 2K15 video game. The commercial is being shot this week where Sting will be a playable character, and his motion capture has already been shot a while ago. This is what the previous casting call for a Sting lookalike and an orchestra were for, or for the upcoming ‘Ultimate Collection’ DVD for Sting.
There are also rumours that the WWE are considering having Sting as their headliner for the 2015 Hall of Fame class, as it is in his home state of California.
Vickie Guerrero leaving the WWE
This is something we reported months ago but Vickie Guerrero managed to stay with the company to finish up her contract. If you tuned in to Monday Night then seeds were planted for Vickie to get ‘fired; by Stephanie McMahon, and next week she is expected to finally leave the company.
The ‘vomiting’ skit which occurred was received negatively by several talents and thought it was in bad taste, as her daughter Shaul Guerrero – who recently left the WWE – suffered an eating disorder.
Goldust vs. Stardust at SummerSlam?
Last week Cody Rhodes teased a ‘superstar we have never seen’ to team up with his brother Goldust and this past week on Raw his partner was revealed as Stardust, basically Cody Rhodes with a new name and similar attitude and face paint to his older brother.
The plans for the team purely depend on how the crowd reacts to them. There were plans to break Cody and Goldust up earlier in the year but that didn’t seem to occur. So, if the crowd react positively then the two will receive a WWE Tag Team Championship match at SummerSlam but if the crowd aren’t impressed, we will see a one on one match between the two at SummerSlam.
