Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is ready to hand Portuguese winger Nani another chance at Old Trafford.
As reported by The Sun, the Red Devils boss has reportedly blocked the 27-year-old from departing the club this summer. Van Gaal will tell the winger that he rates him highly in pre-season, as he looks to keep the player at the club.
Previous reports had indicated that the player, who is currently starring in Brazil at the World Cup, was set to leave the club for around £10 million in the up coming market. Serie A giants Milan and Juventus have both been credited with interest in the player's signature of late.
Manchester United fans will now be hoping the outcast can save his career with a fine 2014/15 campaign.
Nani, much like Manchester United's other wingers, struggled for form last season. The likes of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young both came in for criticism as United endured a nightmare campaign under David Moyes.
The three of them struggled for consistency and were overshadowed by the youthful Adnan Januzaj throughout the campaign. However, with Van Gaal set to hand Nani another chance to star at the club, the likes of Valencia and Co. will be desperate to prove their worth under the new regime.
The new Red Devils boss certainly likes his wingers, and has been able to get the best out of Arjen Robben in the Dutch side - as proven by his World Cup performances so far.
It remains to be seen as to which wingers Van Gaal will make his main-men next season, but they will certainly be handed a starring role.
Should Van Gaal sign a winger?
As mentioned, Manchester United have had their problems out-wide in recent time. And, after all, they are a club that pride themselves on world class wingers. In recent years, the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo have all proved their talents at the Theatre of Dreams.
So, should the new boss add to his side in that position? In truth, it depends on which players are available to him. Arjen Robben has been linked, but it seems unlikely that Manchester United will land him from German giants Bayern Munich.
Barcelona ace Alexis Sanchez is another player reportedly on Van Gaal's transfer list, and he would represent a fine signing for the Dutch coach.
Whatever happens this summer, Manchester United fans will certainly be hoping for an improvement out wide next season.
