The summer transfer window has already served up a number of peculiar rumours and right at the forefront of the unusual speculation is Arsenal's alleged interest in AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli.
The enigmatic Italy international doesn't appear to be the archetypal sort of Arsene Wenger acquisition and it would be somewhat surprising to see the 23-year-old turning out at the Emirates Stadium next season.
Who should Wenger sign?
Still, the Gunners are known to be in the market for attacking reinforcements ahead of 2014/15, as Wenger looks to provide more competition for Olivier Giroud at the focal point of his forward line.
However, a proposed £25 million move for the Serie 'A' star would represent a huge gamble, not least because Balotelli's arrival could risk ruining the harmonious atmosphere carefully instilled in north London.
His previous spell in the Premier League was dominated by a number of off-field indiscretions, while his on-pitch performances weren't consistent enough to justify the ever-increasing list of misdemeanours.
A high-profile training ground bust-up with Roberto Mancini proved to be the final straw for Manchester City who jumped at the opportunity to sell Balotelli when AC Milan came calling last summer.
Balotelli back in Italy
The talisman hasn't attracted as many negative headlines since returning to the San Siro, and apart from the three-match ban received for abusing a referee with "intimidating and insulting" words back in September his antics have been kept to a minimum.
But despite toning down his often outlandish behaviour Arsenal would be better off focusing on alternative targets, even if Balotelli still has the potential to become one of the world's greatest players.
With plenty of other options seemingly available this summer, GiveMeSport has picked out five other stars that would be a safer bet for Wenger.
