Manchester United will need to act quick if they want to sign Arturo Vidal from Juventus - because according to reports Real Madrid are ready to push hard in order to secure his services.
The energetic midfielder has been taking the World Cup by storm as part of a much-fancied Chile team, and he can count some of the most illustrious clubs in Europe amongst his suitors.
A quick glance at his form last season gives you an idea why. He scored 11 Serie goals from midfield as Juventus won the title for the third-straight season, while his form was even more impressive in the Champions League where he scored five goals in six games - including one against Real Madrid.
Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old, but the battle is looking increasingly likely to be between Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Although new boss Louis van Gaal appears to have drawn up an extensive list of transfer targets, Manchester United will be hard pressed to find a better man than Vidal to help bolster their midfield.
His energy and work-rate are something to behold while his is also an excellent passer of the ball - in other words he'd be the perfect man to complement the Red Devils' attacking riches. He covered an impressive 68km during the Champions League group stages, making him one of the hardest runners in the tournament.
However news of Real Madrid stepping up their interest will certainly worry them. Spanish source El Mundo Deportivo say that Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has made Vidal his number one target, forsaking his Juventus team-mate Paul Pogba, who has also been linked with a return to Manchester United.
The Daily Mail have claimed today that an offer of £40 million would be sufficient to persuade Juventus into selling up - a fee neither Real Madrid or Manchester United should have trouble reaching given the qualities that Vidal possess.
In an interview yesterday Vidal hinted that his future could lie away from Italy - which augers well for thos chasing his signature.
"Will I stay at Juventus? I do not know, I just think about the World Cup and the national team now," Vidal said when quizzed about a possible move to Manchester United or any other club.
"After the World Cup we will see what will be my future," he added.
Regardless of whether Manchester United are successful in signing Vidal this summer or not they are in desperate need of reinforcements in midfield. As it stands it looks like Bastian Schweinsteiger may be the most likely new arrival.
