England's fans had their World Cup hopes slashed on Thursday when the Three Lions fell to South Americans Uruguay. Despite having a few periods of probing possession and decent crosses, England rarely looked liked scoring outside the last 20 minutes.
Whilst some optimists may pick at several positives from that performance, results are what matter in knockout football, a message no one will know better than Roy Hodgson right now.
Most of the good play came when the team was altered from the bench and it has become apparent that England must make changes for the final group game against Costa Rica, a statement of intent at the very least.
