Kaka is not yet an Orlando City SC player despite some reports stating the Brazilian's arrival at the MLS franchise as official.
Orlando City released a statement Friday to clear up any confusion, and reveal the latest situation as they seek to bring in the AC Milan midfielder:
"Pending completion of the potential player agreement, Kaka would join Orlando City SC in January 2015 prior to the Club's first season in Major League Soccer.
"The Club will have on additional comment until further notice."
Making it official
News broke late Thursday evening that the club, who will be joining the MLS alongside fellow newcomers New York City FC inJanuary of 2015, had reached an agreement with the 32-year-old Kaka and a contract had been confirmed.
That however does not yet seem to be the case, although the fact that Orlando City have been willing to openly admit that discussions are nearing a conclusion is certainly a positive sign that an official announcement may not be too far away.
Kaka has been linked with a move to Orlando City for a number of months now and with David Villa having already agreed to join NYCFC last month, MLS' newest franchise's are certainly doing their upmost to be competitive when they finally arrive in the league.
Still a force
The prospect of seeing Kaka line up in Florida is certainly an exciting prospect and if the franchise can manage to wrap up the deal in the near future it will be a major boost as they attempt to recruit fans ahead of their MLS bow next year.
Now 32, the Brazilian has had a stellar career to date - winning league titles during his time with both AC Milan and Real Madrid, as well as the 2002 World Cup with Brazil.
He also won the coveted Ballon D'Or prize in 2007. And although is form has dipped somewhat in recent times he will still be a major threat should he end up turning out for the Lions of Orlando City.
With Kaka most recently seen out in his native Brazil watching his former teammates as they bid to win the 2014 World Cup it remains to be seen just how quickly an agreement can be reached, and a contract can be signed. It does however seem more than a little coincidental that the MLS franchise are playing Kaka's first club, Sau Paulo, in a friendly today.
