Hertha Berlin are preparing a €2million bid to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Julian Schieber.
The Olympiastadion outfit are interested in adding fire to their strike force, with the former Germany U21 international being highlighted as a perfect replacement for Hamburg bound Pierre-Michael Lasogga, according to German publication Bild.
Having sold star striker Adrian Ramos to Borussia Dortmund for £8million in April, it is understood that Hertha Berlin would have first pick on the 25-year-old.
Since joining the Black and Yellows from fellow Bundesliga rivals, VfB Stuttgart in 2012, Schieber has often found it hard to get into the squad with Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus restricting him to mainly substitute appearances.
Having made just 12 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season it is understood that the Backnang-born striker is interested in a move. Schieber has also expressed concerns about his future at the Westfalenstadion outfit following the summer arrival of Italy striker Ciro Immobile from Torino, who is likely to form an attacking partnership with Ramos next season.
Hertha Berlin are trying to keep their expenses as a minimum and if fan favourite Lasogga was to leave, Schieber would be the perfect fit. Despite Dortmund giving Hertha Berlin first pick on the striker it is thought that Schieber is also interested in a move abroad with several Premier League and Championship sides interested in signing the frontman.
It is understood that West Ham are set to open talks with the striker having missed out on Lasogga, whilst Championship side Wigan are desperate to sign a new attacker having narrowly missed out on a return to the Premier League last season.
It also seems that Borussia Dortmund are happy for Schieber to leave the club if he gets regular playing time with Director of Sports, Michael Zorc admitting that no one will stand in his way.
He said: “We have already discussed that if he stayed with us for two years that he would be able to look for new clubs if he had interest.”
If Schieber were to sign for Hertha Berlin he would become their seventh signing of the summer, following the arrivals of John Heitinga, Valentin Stocker, Tolga Cigerci, Jens Heggler, Genki Haraguchi and Marvin Plattenhardt.
