Reports earlier this week linked Arsenal with a shock move for Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
This particular transfer rumour certainly took many by surprise, especially when you consider the role that Ivanovic has played at Stamford Bridge over the last few years.
However, it's actually a move that makes sense. After all, Jose Mourinho is seemingly looking towards the future at Stamford Bridge, with the likes of Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard on the lookout for a new club.
And, despite the fact that Ivanovic has been a regular in recent time, it's uncertain as to whether he will be able to find a place in Mourinho's team next term.
After all, the self proclaimed 'Special One' seems intent on bringing a new left-back to the Bridge ahead of the next campaign. That could hand Cesar Azpilicueta the opportunity at starring in his preferred right-back position.
So, where does this leave Ivanovic? Well, it's unlikely that he will be a starter at centre-back. The Blues will be led once again by John Terry next season, and it's unlikely that Gary Cahill will be replaced.
The ex-Bolton man formed a fine partnership alongside the Blues veteran last season, and it's expected that the duo will form Mourinho's No.1 pairing once again in 2014/15. Youngster Kurt Zouma will also be desperate to make his mark at the Bridge, meaning Ivanovic could find himself on the bench more often than not.
Ivanovic's Chelsea career can only be recognised as a success. But he can't afford to rest on his laurels, and sit back and watch his career go down hill.
He should make the move now, before it's too late. And if Arsenal really are interested, then it could be the ideal move for both club and player.
The Gunners are in need of defensive reinforcements. Wenger has already seen full-back Bacary Sagna depart the club for Manchester City, and there's much uncertainty surrounding Thomas Vermaelen.
At Arsenal, Ivanovic would slot in perfectly at right-back and would act as an ideal back-up for Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
The Gunners are certainly on the up and they will be looking to add to their FA Cup success next term.
After losing Sagna, Arsenal are in need of another top class experienced star to help their continued progression.
Ivanovic may well be that man.
