5 Premier League stars who lack effort (1)

The start of a new Premier League season offers every top-flight footballer a fresh start. Whatever happened last term is now in the past, while an encouraging start can set them up for the best campaign of their careers.

Look at Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, for example. The Wales international was treated as a scapegoat for the Gunners' failures before the beginning of last season, when a magnificent start transformed his reputation in the eyes of not only the Arsenal supporters, but every other follower of the Premier League, too.

Ramsey is proof that, in football, things can change radically in a very short space of time. But, in this instance, it wasn't a lack of effort which prevented the player from becoming a Premier League star before the beginning of last season; but rather a lack of confidence and a succession of untimely injuries.

NO EXCUSES

Other players don't necessarily have the same excuses to fall back on. Sometimes a player needs to take a look in the mirror and accept that putting in more effort during training and matches is the only way to get supporters onside.

This list features five high-profile Premier League players who have seemingly lacked effort over the past 12 months and, in some cases, even longer.

Can they turn things around next season? Or will it be the same old story? After flicking through the sideshow, don't forget to leave your thoughts in the comments' section below.
