According to reports Carmelo Anthony has opted out of the final year of his contract with the New York Knicks to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. The two main reported suitors are the Houston Rockets and the Chicago Bulls.

CHICAGO BOUND?

It was reported Sunday that he had reached out to at least one high-profile person who has experienced what it is like to live in Chicago. It is speculated that this celebrity Anthony spoke to could have been all-time Bulls great Scottie Pippen.

Anthony is not the only one doing his homework. The Bulls organization is looking into him as well. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that, Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau reached out to former coaches and people involved with Anthony throughout his career.

The newspaper also reported that Thibodeau has done his best to discreetly share his belief that Anthony would complete an already highly competitive Bulls team, and that together they will accomplish big things.

This is just the newest information in the ongoing Carmelo Anthony free agency drama. It started at the All Star break when Joakim reached out to Melo to discuss a possible union in Chicago.

WHERE WILL HE END UP?

Outside of the top two percieved suitors include the Dallas Mavericks and on much less likely the Miami Heat. The New York Knicks main leverage is about how much money they can offer him.

Anthony can sign a five year $126 million deal with New York, or a four year $96 million deal somewhere else.

In the coming weeks this news will be more rampant and speculative, once July 1st hits teams can begin negotiating with free agents.
