Russian Premier League side Dynamo Moscow have confirmed the signing of Dutch left-back Alex Buttner from Manchester United, with only a few technical details left to conclude before the deal is completed.
A statement on Dynamo Moscow’s website confirmed the news, while several photographs showing Buttner training at the facilities of his new employers were also published. Buttner, who completed a medical in the Russian capital last week, leaves Manchester United after two seasons at Old Trafford.
LOUIS VAN GAAL NOT A FAN
Buttner issued a bizarre parting shot at United’s new manager Louis van Gaal last week, claiming the vastly-experience Dutch coach never called him up to the Netherlands first-team, even though he was “voted man of the match 14 times at United”. Considering he made just 28 appearances for the Premier League giants and often struggled, this was quite the claim.
Buttner failed to convince as a left-back and it became quite apparent after Sir Alex Ferguson signed the defender that he was out of his depth. While he showed promise as a left-sided winger, he was never likely to trouble Adnan Januzaj, Shinji Kagawa, Ashley Young or Nani for the left-wing position.
MANCHESTER UNITED SET TO SIGN LUKE SHAW
Van Gaal has allowed Buttner to leave because Manchester United are optimistic that Southampton and England left-back Luke Shaw will becoming to Old Trafford this summer. The Red Devils have tabled an improved £34 million offer for the 18-year-old, who is widely regarded as the best young full-back in Britain.
Southampton reportedly want a £40 million fee, but the teenager’s desire to join the Red Devils should allow Van Gaal and co. to negotiate a slightly lower price before a deal is completed.
PATRICE EVRA IS STAYING
Had Patrice Evra rejected the chance to sign a one-year contract extension, it’s possible that Van Gaal would have asked Buttner to stay put for the time being. However, the France international will be at Old Trafford until next summer after putting pen-to-paper on a new deal in May.
It’s believed that Van Gaal will rotate Evra and Shaw next season, leaving no room for back-up left-back Buttner, who will begin the next chapter of his career with the team who finished fourth in the Russian Premier League last season.
MANCHESTER UNITED BUSINESS UNDERWAY
It’s a case of one in, one out at Old Trafford today as the Red Devils prepare to confirm the signing of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera.
The Spain Under-23 international is on his way to Manchester - and a deal is expected to be confirmed within the next 24 hours. He will cost the Red Devils €36 million - the price is cost for United to trigger the midfielder’s release clause.
