There were more than a few raised eyebrows last week when it was reported that Arsenal were looking to make a deal for Carlos Vela, and now seems as though that is complete - but all is not as it seems.
The Mexican striker will in fact be staying with Sociedad after the Spanish club reached an agreement with Arsenal to remove their buy-back clause. It is being reported by the Guardian that in order to secure the striker on a long-term deal, Sociedad had to hand over more than £8 million, plus pledge another £4 million in add-ons.
In a statement released on their website, the La Liga club said: “Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with Arsenal FC which will allow Carlos Vela to continue at the club on a permanent basis. The player meanwhile, has signed a contract extension which ties him to Real Sociedad for the next four seasons
