LeBron James will opt out of a deal with Miami Heat and seek free agency his agent Rich Paul has confirmed. Paul has told the Heat of LeBron's plans to utilize the early termination in his contract.
It's understood that James wants to put pressure on the Miami franchise to make sure they improve the roster and spend more, that is at least according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowsk.
Chris Broussard of ESPN was the first one to break the news Tuesday afternoon when he tweeted, "LeBron James' agent Rich Paul has told Heat LeBron will exercise early termination option."
Fans across the social media platform reacted to the news in their droves this afternoon before USA Today confirmed news with this even more credible tweet.
"LeBron James' agent, Rich Paul, confirms to USAT that he told Heat LeBron will use his early termination option to become a free agent."
But as we have alluded to earlier, LeBron James could still end up at the Miami Heat long-term, and this move by the four-time NBA MVP could be just a power stance.
"He's determined to impose pressure on Miami to improve roster and spend, sources say," Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted Tuesday.
Even though the Heat already have 'the big three' of James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, it's been said that LeBron wants far more improvement from his team. James would reportedly take a pay cut in order for his team to improve.
The Heat were completely dominated in this year's NBA Finals as they went down 4-1 in the series to the San Antonio Spurs, and the embarrassment of this defeat is a huge part of the reason for this power stance from LeBron.
Another option for LeBron James is a return to Cleveland. He spent seven seasons with the Cavaliers between 2003-10 and made one NBA Finals with the team.
Some say that Cleveland is LeBron's home and that a return is only inevitable. And that talk will only increase in the coming weeks and maybe months as James makes his decision.
There could be a semblance of truth there on LeBron's part, but also that type of talk will only help his power stance with Miami and make the Heat really believe he is about to go. Maybe only then will owner Micky Arison actually bow to money and improvement pressures from King James.
OTHER DESTINATION POSSIBILITIES
Other realistic destinations for LeBron are few and far between. Any suggestions that he might end up at the LA Lakers with legendary ball player Kobe Bryant are way too farfetched.
But New York Knicks could be option for James, with some of the talk regarding a potential move there not as crazy as some of the other rumors that have been and will be flying around.
Wherever he ends up, expect a dramatic announcement for the money such as the one that he made below when he joined the Heat after leaving the Cavs.
