Southampton have submitted an offer for Feyenoord goalscorer, Graziano Pelle, according to the Daily Mirror.
Pelle played under Southampton’s new boss, Ronald Koeman, for the past two seasons and scored an impressive 50 goals in 58 appearances for the club. The Dutch manager is convinced Pelle is capable of replicating his form last season in the Premier League and could prove to be the perfect replacement for Rickie Lambert.
Koeman is set to have plenty of money to spend this summer, with big-money offers on the table for star players Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw. Lallana is being chased by Liverpool, who reportedly bid £20million for the 26-year-old earlier in the summer, but the club are holding out for a £30million bid for their star.
A number of Premier League clubs have been chasing the highly rated Luke Shaw, who was taken to the World Cup ahead of the experienced Ashley Cole, after an impressive season in Southampton’s back-line. Manchester United have emerged as favourites for the youngster, but could have to pay up to £40million to land his signature.
Pelle would cost the Saints’ £8million – a steal for a proven goal-scorer – but they will face competition from newly promoted Leicester City for the 28-year-old. However, Koeman’s relationship with the frontman could prove to be a deciding factor in the fight for his signature.
