The Athletic Bilbao midfielder is believed to have flown to England via a private jet last night, ahead of his £28.7 million transfer to Old Trafford.

Herrera will represent Louis van Gaal's first major acquisition as Red Devils boss, with the deal set to be formally announced before the end of the week.

Manchester United rumours...

The 20-year-old has shone at the World Cup - netting two goals in the Netherlands flying start to the tournament - and Van Gaal has been credited with an interest in bringing him to the Premier League.

However, the Red Devils could face rival interest from Tottenham, with Mauricio Pochettino also believed to be considering a bid to bring the 'new Cristiano Ronaldo' to White Hart Lane.

Other targets

The Germany international has been the subject of intense transfer speculation this summer with just 12 months remaining on his contract at the Allianz Arena, and representatives from both Barca and Real are believed to be in Brazil trying to tie up the 24-year-old's future.

Luke Shaw update

Manchester United are refusing to pay over the odds for Luke Shaw this summer - with reports that they have met Southampton's £34 million valuation believed to be wide of the mark. (Manchester Evening News)

The 18-year-old has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford before the start of the new campaign, but the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement over a fee for the talented left-back.

Opposite direction

Alex Buttner claims he is leaving Manchester United to win trophies with Dynamo Moscow. (Daily Mail)

The Dutchman is joining Dynamo because he is frustrated by his lack of first-team opportunities and he did not expect his Old Trafford fortunes to improve under Louis van Gaal.
