Arsenal transfer target Jefferson Montero has revealed that an offer has been made for his services.
The Ecuadorian international winger, who was part of his nation’s World Cup squad this summer, looks set to leave his club Mexico amidst interest from the Premier League.
The Gunners, as well as West Bromwich Albion, Swansea City and West Ham United, have all been linked with a move for the player. Whilst he didn’t confirm which club made the offer, he was happy to confirm it is from Europe and that he’ll be moving to that continent.
"It’s certain that I’ll leave the league, but let’s see where I’ll go. We expect to sort it out within the next few days,” said the Monarcas Morelia star, according to The Daily Express.
"I already have an offer, the club are handling it. I can tell you that it won’t be Mexico. It will be Europe and thank God we are working on it, I hope it works out.”
Press reports less than a fortnight ago claimed Montero could be available for as little as £4million - a price that is sure to appeal to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as he looks to add to his squad this summer.
The Gunners ended their nine-year wait for a trophy last season, winning the FA Cup at Wembley and lifting the spirits of the club’s supporters after years of near misses.
But, if Arsenal are to go further and challenge for the title, there is little doubt that Wenger needs to add depth to the squad in a number of positions.
Montero would certainly help in that aspect, and whilst he might not be an automatic selection at the Emirates Stadium, he’s shown at the World Cup that he can mix it at the highest level.
