Chelsea wonderkid Andreas Christensen set for stay

The agent of Chelsea wonderkid Andreas Christensen believes that his client will stay at Stamford Bridge, amid speculation linking him with a loan move to Sunderland.

As reported by The Express, the defender's agent Sten Christensen has insisted that he expects the youngster to be at The Bridge when the club return for pre-season training.

Early career

Christensen, who is just 18-years-old, joined the Blues in 2012, and helped the club secure the Under-21 Premier League title last season. He played a key role in the young side's success and could once again feature for them next term.

The starlet, who was wanted by Chelsea's Premier League rivals Manchester City before the Blues secured his signature, has already picked caps for the Denmark Under-21 side. He certainly looks set to be an exciting prospect, but it appears that he won't be playing regular first-team football next term.

Sunderland have been linked with a move for Christensen for some time, but his agent has quickly denied the rumours.

"That is news to me," Sten Christensen said on the loan rumours. "I do not believe that Andreas will be joining Sunderland for the upcoming season.

"That is not my impression right now. I have not talked to the club about a loan for Andreas.

"At the moment, the plan is that Andreas will play for Chelsea when pre-season starts after the summer vacation."

This will come as a major blow to the Black Cats ahead of the 2014/15 campaign. It appears that they were ready to hand the youngster an opportunity to play first-team football, whilst also adding to their defensive options, however a move is now seemingly unlikely. It remains to be seen as to whether they look elsewhere before the start of the new season.

The teenager will now be looking to continue his progression through the Chelsea youth ranks before staking a claim in the first team. John Terry and Gary Cahill look set to be the Blues' No.1 centre-back pairing once again next season and the starlet will be desperate to emulate the duo as he continues to build his reputation in the game.

With youngster Kurt Zouma also at Stamford Bridge, the pair could one day become the No.1 defensive partnership at Chelsea as the club look ahead to the long-term.

Christensen certainly looks set to be a star in the future, but Blues fans will be hoping for immediate success under Mourinho. Last season proved a disappointing campaign for the Stamford Bridge outfit as they only managed to secure a third placed Premier League finish and were knocked out in the semi-final of the Champions League.

Chelsea fans will be desperate for the club to secure silverware next season, as the Blues go in search of Premier League and European success.
