Chael Sonnen has admitted that he has bit opponents before just like Luis Suarez has infamously done at this year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Speaking on Thursday's episode of UFC Tonight, the recently retired UFC star admitted that he has bitten opponents in the heat of battle, but clarified that it was only in self-defence.
"I have experienced it in wrestling matches," Sonnen revealed. "I'll be quite honest, I've been on both sides of it. That's right. I'm very shady."
"Now, they stuck their finger in my mouth," said Sonnen. "He put his finger in my mouth and was trying to give me the old fishhook, so I gave him just a little, gentle bite to let him know, 'I will chomp on this thing should you not remove your finger.' Shady."
Sonnen revealed his 'shady' tactics after he and co-host, Kenny Florian, were asked to speak about the Liverpool and Uruguay striker's incident that has seen him suspended for four months and nine international games.
It was the third time that Suarez has bitten somebody but on the biggest footballing stage, FIFA have come down strong on the striker and even for Sonnen, the bite was weird.
"Lets start with what happened on the soccer field," said Sonnen. "To bite someone in the course of battle at least somehow makes some kind of sense. To walk up behind a guy and just bite into his shoulder is just a very weird thing to do."
Sonnen's admittance of biting opponents when wrestling comes at an interesting time as he's just been announced as one of the main event fighters for Metamoris 4 - a grappling and submission based fight organisation.
Despite failing a recent drugs test, Sonnen is free to compete at the event, as it's not technically MMA, which is the sport in which he committed his offence.
He's also awaiting the results of a Nevada State Athletic Commission hearing that will determine the fate of both himself and Wanderlei Silva, after both fighters failed the spot drugs test.
There were no further comments from Sonnen about the Suarez incident, although I'm sure that he could get the Uruguayan a fantastic deal on some mouth guards to prevent any further incidents.
