Paul Heyman was a guest on this week's Chris Jericho podcast 'Talk is Jericho'. Of the many topics that the two discussed, one that came up quite a bit was that of CM Punk.
Since Jericho assumed that Heyman could have known about Punk's departure beforehand, he asked if Punk had told him about his plans before abruptly quitting WWE. Heyman said it was rather spontaneous, but noted the issues with Punk had been building for a year.
The former ECW boss said he wouldn't have been surprised had it been any other day in between last year. Things were really that bad for Punk in the company.
"He was unhappy," Heyman told Jericho. "He had enough. He couldn't take it anymore, and it wasn't a slow build. A year before he walked, there were daily conversations of 'I don't know how much longer I could take, I don't know how much longer I'm going to be here…' So, I'm surprised it lasted that long."
He also mentioned Punk was struggling on a daily basis to find the passion he needed to continue. Heyman believes after walking in the next day after the Royal Rumble 2014, he simply couldn't find that passion, or convince himself what he was doing was for his legacy.
Punk wasn't the type of guy that would just stay on in the WWE to pick up a paycheck, that's not who he is. He's a man that needs the passion, determination and drive in his life to really excel. It's obvious why he left when you just do the same boring stuff over and over and it doesn't further your own self. It became all for naught and he just gave up.
Punk now lives his life exactly the way that he wants to. Attending sports matches, relaxing and creating a family with his wife AJ Lee, who is rumored to be pregnant. He may have gotten his happy ending, even if WWE fans are left unhappy with the outcome.
