Arsenal are in talks to sign Belgian striker David Henen from Anderlecht and hope to complete a deal worth €1.5 million. The 18-year-old, who has been linked with the likes of Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in the past, could move to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
News that Arsenal are currently negotiating with the teenager comes courtesy of reliable Belgian website HLN.BE, whose journalist Sven Claes revealed details of the potential deal via Twitter.
Comparisons with Ronaldo and Neymar
Henen, who spent last season playing at Monaco B, has been compared to both Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar in recent years. The gifted forward can play on either flank or through the middle and has represented Belgium at every level from Under-15 to Under-18, scoring 14 goals in 17 appearances.
His versatility is certainly a big selling point for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who will not be looking at Henen as a first-team option for the forthcoming season, but rather a potential star of the future.
Henen in action
Few Arsenal supporters will be familiar with Henen's name, but fortunately there is some footage of the talented teenager in action.
After watching the video above, it's easy to see why Arsenal are negotiating hard for the forward's signature. A €1.5 million fee could prove to be a bargain for a striker with superb technique, pace and power. A rangy forward, he bears some similarities to a young Thierry Henry.
Henen can follow in Joel Campbell's footsteps
Joel Campbell may not have played a senior match for Arsenal, but he's still one of the Gunners' success stories. Now 22, the Costa Rica international - who impressed during a loan spell with Olympiacos last season - is expected to return to the Emirates Stadium next term to challenge for a first-team place.
Like Campbell, Henen is versatile and equally comfortable out wide as he is in the centre-forward position. The Belgian would, in all probability, spend the next few seasons away from Arsenal on loan until he is ready to compete for a place in the first team.
Another Belgian in the Premier League?
Henen, providing Wenger gets his way, will become the latest Belgian starlet to arrive in the Premier League. A host of Belgium internationals currently ply their trade in England's top domestic league, including Eden Hazard, Adnan Januzaj and Romelu Lukaku.
Seeing so many of his compatriots shining in the Premier League on a weekly basis may influence his decision to say yes to the Gunners.
