Inter Milan legend Esteban Cambiasso could become Mauricio Pochettino's first summer signing at Tottenham, as he has been released after 10 years with the Serie A side.
According to talkSPORT, Pochettino is an admirer of the Argentinian, wanting to secure his services on a free transfer as he looks to put some experience into a relatively young Spurs midfield.
It is clear that Cambiasso, 33, still has a lot to offer as he was a key figure last season for Inter, scoring four goals in 32 league appearances but his age meant that Inter were unwilling to extend his stay at the San Siro.
Spurs look to be leading the race for the former Inter man, telling FC Inter News: "I have several proposals from big clubs but as a sign of respect for them I will not reveal the negotiations that my father and my brother are undertaking."
He also quashed rumours of a potential return to his native Argentina, stating: "My future is very far from Argentina", ruling out a return to River Plate.
Nevertheless, it could still be a struggle for fellow Argentinian Pochettino to tie him down to a contract with the north London club, with the identities of the other suitors unknown.
Cambiasso is yet to have played in the Premier League having spent time in Italy and Spain where he played with Real Madrid, meaning he may favour a move to more familiar surroundings.
Being at the back end of his career though, the Argentinian is more likely to be looking for one final lucrative contract, regardless of which European team offer it.
