Daniel Bryan fans have been left frustrated over the last few months after watching him go from the glory of capturing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania, to vacating the gold just months later.
It hasn’t been easy for Daniel Bryan either though. After successfully retaining his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Kane at Extreme Rules, Bryan went to Monday Night Raw and shocked the fans by telling the Universe he will have to undergo neck surgery and just a couple of days after the announcement, he underwent successful surgery.
The WWE were hopeful that his recovery would go well and he would be back in time for the Money in the Bank event but as we witnessed on Sunday, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was on the line to crown a new champion.
After Brie was fired by Stephanie, Bryan had no choice but to relinquish his championship after his recovery was not going as expected. However, for the first time since he was stripped of the gold, Bryan was at the Money in the Bank event in Boston, where on the pre-show he addressed the WWE Universe in an exclusive in-ring interview with commentator, Michael Cole.
The fans were encouraged to use social media to ask Bryan any burning questions that were on their mind, and he addressed a number of them over the loud ‘YES!’ chants which broke out as soon as his name was mentioned.
Michael Cole asked Daniel Bryan about his neck injury and that’s where the wrestler had some bad news for his fans. Bryan told them that there is no timeline on his return and as he hasn’t regained all of the strength in his arm - the doctors are considering a second surgery before promising he will be back and win back his gold.
The Wrestling Observer Radio reported that Bryan’s surprising announcement was in fact a legitimate announcement and is definitely not a work of any sort. This will be very worrying for the WWE and for Bryan’s future inside the ring as a WWE superstar. He has vowed to return but if a second surgery is definitely needed then it’s likely Bryan could be out for the remainder of 2014.
This does help clear the WWE World Heavyweight Championship situation, as no superstar will have to hold on to the gold for a short amount of time until Bryan returned, but fans still want to see Bryan as a fighting champion. His health is obviously the most important thing however. If he can take more time off and recover then that will be a major positive.
On the same night he made the announcement, he highlighted John Cena, Randy Orton and Roman Reigns were the ones to look out for in the Money in the Bank ladder match, of course we now know John Cena is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
Bryan did leave a smile on the fans’ faces before he left, as ‘The Inspirational’ Bo Dallas interrupted him and told Bryan his injury must be a pain in the neck but nobody was in the mood, instead Bryan said Dallas was acting like a ‘Bo-Ner’ before the fans erupted in cheers and chanted ‘Bo-Leave’ to end Bryan’s segment.
It is an interesting time for the WWE, to see how they respond to Bryan’s news and how they respond this time round after showing their lack in depth with his first injury.
