Damian Lillard demands Trail Blazers sign star free agents

Published Add your comment

The Portland Trail Blazers have stated that they plan to be aggressive in free agency this off-season. But if the higher ups at Blazers HQ need any help with talent identification, star man Damian Lillard is willing to lend a helping hand by putting on his general manager cap.

Portland reached the Western Conference finals in 2014 where they had their rears handed to them by eventual champions the San Antonio Spurs in five, and the All-Star point guard Lilllard is hoping to see the Blazers make numerous big name moves in free agency to make them bigger contenders in the West next season.

Targets Galore

Lillard has already stated that he wants the Trail Blazers to re-sign Mo Williams, who opted-out of his contract in late June. But in addition to that, the former Weber State 1st rounder wants the Blazers to look at free agents like Vince Carter, Spencer Hawes, Channing Frye and Trevor Ariza, according to reports from

While Ariza is unlikely given the vast amount of interest in him after his Washington Wizards captured the eyes of the nation in the Playoffs, Carter, Hawes and Frye all appear to be distinct possibilities for the Blazers.

Tough Time

Vinsanity has expressed a desire to remain with the Dallas Mavericks, something the Mavericks themselves have stated as well, but money may be a factor. As for Spencer Hawes, he has expressed a desire to sign with the Los Angeles Clippers however Hawes is native to the Northwest and may relish the chance to play near his home in Washington.

As for Channing Frye, the talk is that Andre Iguodala is trying to recruit his former college teammate to the Warriors. Frye is a former Blazer though so knows the organization well, which Portland have going in their favor.

Lillard could well be getting his wishes granted at Portland. And if things go to plan then Trail Blazers fans will be a lot more excited for next season.
