Manchester United and Chelsea have received a boost in their alleged pursuit of Toni Kroos after the Bayern Munich midfielder's agent denied claims that he's agreed a transfer to Real Madrid.
The Daily Express reports how the Germany international has been the subject of widespread speculation in recent weeks, following suggestions that Kroos has become disillusioned with life at the Allianz Arena under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola.
With just 12 months remaining on his current contract the 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga champions, and latest rumours have even intimated that Real Madrid have agreed a £22 million deal for the player, with Kroos set to sign a long-term five year contract worth a mouth-watering £4 million per year.
However, Volker Struth has dismissed those reports as inaccurate, saying that his client is at present focusing only on the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
Toni Kroos agent quotes:
"There is no agreement with Real or any other club," he insisted. "For now the player is only thinking of the World Cup. At the end there will be news for the future."
The news will be welcomed by fellow suitors Manchester United and Chelsea, who have both also been credited with an interest in bringing the Bayern Munich man to the Premier League this summer.
Premier League interest
Louis van Gaal is believed to be a huge admirer of Kroos and would welcome him at Old Trafford, while Jose Mourinho is also a fan of the German star, despite boasting a wealth of midfield options at Stamford Bridge and having already concluded a £27 million deal to sign Cesc Fabregas this summer.
Barcelona have also been mooted as admirers of Kroos as Luis Enrique scours the market for a replacement for Fabregas at Camp Nou, but like all of the other interested clubs the Catalans will have to wait until after the World Cup before beginning any negotiations with Kroos and Co.
Real Madrid is probably still the most likely destination for Kroos this summer, with Carlo Ancelotti seemingly ready to let Sami Khedira leave the Santiago Bernabeu - maybe for the Premier League - before the close of the transfer window.
Of course, Bayern Munich remain keen to tie the in-demand playmaker to a new contract, but unless they are willing to meet his wage demands - Kroos wants parity with some of the Bavarian club's highest earners - then the £70,000-a-week star will leave before the start of the new season.
