Samuel Eto'o says emotional farewell to Chelsea fans

Published 1 Comments

Samuel Eto'o has said an emotional farewell to Chelsea fans following his departure from the club, thanking them for their support during his season at Stamford Bridge.

Eto'o joined the Blues last year from Anzhi Makhachkala, and after a slow start soon found his best form to end the season with nine goals in 21 Premier League games.

Chelsea exit

Eto'o has been released at the end of his year-long deal in west London, and has taken to Instagram to thank Chelsea fans for their support over the season.

He wrote: "Thank you to the Amazing @chelseafc fans for having given me the opportunity to be a blue. It was a honour to me!!! BLUE is THE color!! And me Samuel Eto'o Ello Ello will forever be a blue!! #CFC #it #was #a #real #pleasure #KTBFFH"

Falling short

Despite his best efforts, Chelsea fell just short in the Premier League, ending up four points adrift of eventual winners Manchester City, while they also exited the Champions League at the semi-final stage at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was quick to blame his strike-force for their inability to land silverware last term, and has added Spanish international Diego Costa to his ranks this summer.

That wasn't the only gripe Mourinho had with Eto'o either; he was caught questioning the Cameroonian's age while being filmed - he claimed secretly - during an interview with Canal Plus.

Eto'o responded in emphatic fashion by scoring in Chelsea's victory over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, before hobbling to the corner flag like an old man in reference to Mourinho's comments.
