It wasn't long ago when Vitor Belfort was in line for a second Middleweight Title shot before the change of rules to TRT therapy forced him out of the bout.
Despite fellow Brazilian Lyoto Mchida stepping in to face Chris Weidman for the UFC Title, Belfort has been guaranteed the winner of the bout in his next fight and he has said he wants his original opponent Weidman, this time however in Brazil's national stadium, the Maracana. Speaking to Tatame Magazine, Belfort said:
"Bring Weidman. Tell him to train more. Weidman and Vitor. It's a fight for Maracana. I can only see Weidman vs. Belfort.I can only see this.
"I can't talk about anything else, only about my belt. It won't get in my head. Of course that I will watch the (Weidman vs Machida) fight, I only wait for a winner to fight me. I have no preference, I'm going after the title. I conquered this, that's what i deserve."
Belfort has been incredible in his UFC return. He's 6-2, with his only losses fighting for the UFC Middleweight Title and the UFC Light-Heavyweight Title. 'The Phenom' is currently on a three fight win streak, with all three victories coming via head kick knock-outs.
He'll have to wait until July 5th to see who he will fight next time, as Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida fight for the title at UFC 175.
In terms of the fight being at the Maracana, this could be a possibility. All the UFC events in Brazil have been hugely successful. If Lyoto Machida defeats Weidman, an all Brazilian clash between Belfort and Machida could potentially sell out the 79,000 seater stadium.
