There are moments in soccer - or football depending on your location - that just transcend sport, mirroring and reflecting something so much deeper. Those moments can even go so far as to representing a nation such as the USA as a whole.

USA's late free-kick against Belgium was just that. It was a moment full of audacity, guile and a lack of fear fuelled by a never say die attitude.

The tenacity of the US in that moment was impressive. Whatever you think of the United States of America, that moment showed everything that is great about their nation and their character. More on that later. First let's talk through the epic free-kick.

Insane free kick

This moment would prove to be one of the biggest in US soccer history. And these types of scenarios players of a clutch nature need to step up. That is definitely what happened for one of the greatest free-kick moves of all-time.

The clever free-kick saw Bradley, Wondolowski and Dempsey build a superb training-ground move inside the box, presenting the latter with a shot on goal, but Belgium's Courtois made wonder save by blocking the shot to spare Belgium blushes.

Deeper meaning of the set piece

The deeper meaning of the free-kick is that it represents a US way of approaching sport that is impressive and unparalleled.

They are not the only team to have impressed at this World Cup. But you've got to remember that they have shockingly little depth in their squad. However, what they lacked in depth they made up for ingenuity and drive.

That's what the late free kick represents. They took a more talented Belgium team to extra-time. And even when they succumbed to two extra time goals, they pulled one back and pushed for an equalizer late in extra-time.

As a nation, the US react better than most to turmoil and devastation, so there's probably no wonder they staged that late mint fightback. Also, in the face of adversity, they remained calm and trusted the skills they do have. They don't buckle under pressure and go for the safe play, as the awesome free-kick shows.

Even though USA are out, they have impressed fans across of the globe by truly leaving everything on the field. To watch the dream free-kick routine, see the vine below.
