Lionel Messi claims playing Brazil in the final of the World Cup would be "some dream", as his team continue on their march to international glory.

Messi is yet to add the World Cup to his many accolades, but with Argentina making a strong start to the competition it would be hard to bet against them. Argentina have won all their games so far and ran out winners against a game Switzerland in the round of 16 yesterday to book their place in the quarter finals.

Brazil have already made it to the next round after beating South American rivals Chile on penalties and Messi admits playing them in the final would be special.

Argentina vs Brazil final?

According to Shoot, Messi said: “I’d be lying to say that it wouldn’t be very special. Brazil against Argentina in the final at the Maracana? That would be some dream, wouldn’t it?

“You can only imagine how much the people back home in Argentina would love it if we could beat Brazil – it would be talked about forever.

“I know the passion of our people, and they have just as much love for football as the Brazilians do, it is fantastic. We should have a lot of fans in Brazil, too, so hopefully our games can feel like home matches, even though they aren’t."

The rivalry between these two countries is fierce and if the teams are to play each other it has to be in the final. as the draw prevents them from meeting until then. It is a game that everyone would like to see, with both sides matching each other in most areas of the pitch.

Messi and the Golden Boot race

Messi has scored four goals so far during the competition and is in contention for the Golden Boot award, and the Argentine believes winning the award would be a honour as it means his team would have progressed far in the tournament.

“I like to score goals, and if I could get the Golden Boot, it would be something very special for me. But more importantly, it would mean that Argentina are doing well," he said.

“The team of the Golden Boot winner usually makes it to the semi finals or further, and that is what we want. But I would happily not score any goals and swap that for a World Cup!”
